Here is a link I used UTILITY OFF ROAD, I was not able to get this to work. The ground wire is the one you are talking about, it comes from the harness, but it has enough current coming through it that when connected through the relay it leaves the (R) light for reverse on when the lights are on. I used a momentary push button switch located under the center console, it is activated when I put the rhino in reverse. I can send a picture if you want.

 

The "Utility Off Road" set up looks like it would work great, But I dont know why you would want the reverse light on with the headlights only. I dont care about saving the bulb life. Hook up power to the relay for your reverse light and instead of hooking to the headlight blue go to the ignition or accessory on, then you have reverse all the time. The other two wire are fine.

rhinomafia hooked my l.e.d's up, the reverse light works and the brakes work. they do however light up when the key is on, it's like a taillight on all the time. Not sure if that is right or not, but I like the idea of tailights on when I am sitting on a dune in the dark,someone will see me.

 

I have my LED Yamaha taillights hooked up to go on when shifting into reverse.
I also added a painless fuseblock and a couple DPDT rocker switches.
Two for two sets of HID
One for rocklights under the hood
One for a Reverse light that fit so perfect, it looks factory.

The reverse light is a Autozone cheapie with a plastic guard.
Its way bright and floods out and is aimed low.
Great for backing down a hill.

I Installed the LED kit yesterday. It requires a "relay" module to be plugged in inside the battery box.
You also utilize the dummy plug thats tucked up under the tailgate where your factory tailights plug in (yellow and blue, almost in the middle).
The kit comes with a replacement dummy plus, a piggy back and the relay module for in the battery box.
I dont think its going to be easy without the relay module.

 

The pic below is where I physically installed my light. I havent wired it yet but bought a relay to wire them like in the utility off road link above. I would like to be able to also wire a switch so I could turn it on without being in reverse. How could I do that and still have it automatically come on when I put it in reverse? Is it as simple as adding an switch that bypasses the relay?

I did that, I found the wire that turns on the "R" light on the dash when in reverse. I will have to look up the color or you can find it in the schematic, I did. I think light blue out of the back of Digidash????

It becomes a switched ground when in rev. so in order for me to use it, I use two leds for my backup lights and the hot from the plug in the back. had to run the newly tapped switched ground wire back to the leds and all is good. no extra switched or relays.

 

But I'm wondering if I hook-up the reverse light like in the utility off road link. UtilityOffroad.com That is - with a relay so it comes on when I put the bike in
reverse and also bypass the relay.

Can I bypass the relay with a toggle or rocker switch straight wired so I could turn the light on without being in reverse?

Most of the time, the relay option would be great but I can think of a couple of situations where I'd just like to turn it on.
